Joseph Lobdell, formerly known as Lucy Ann, author of The Female Hunter of Delaware and Sullivan Counties, became locally famous in upstate New York during the early years of the Republic not only as an excellent shot with a rifle but as a feminist advocate for marriage reform, before being deemed psychiatrically ill and institutionalized for the rest of his long life.
