You want a husband who is like Jesus, who grabbed us at our dirtiest and loved us. You want a wife like Jesus, who will see you in all your brokenness and extend grace and love toward you anyway. You need that.

It carries a similar idea of someone cherished. What this means is that they are drawn to one another’s character, but they are also knit closer and closer together by their continued kindness and friendship. They simply enjoy being with one another.

Ladies, as you share more of your heart and he continues to treat you with kindness, and men, as you continue to initiate and she responds with encouragement and respect, you can both continue to move forward. I remember when this transition happened for Donna and me. The excitement of attraction blasted us off into the stratosphere, but when those boosters were expended the questions became, Can we maintain an orbit together, or will we come crashing to earth? The more I get to know you, can I trust you with the depths of my heart? Are you a safe place for me?

The strongest marriages are those in which the husband and wife are truly friends. As friends they grasp each other’s hand and run together after a common mission. And the more compelling the vision, the stronger the bond. In marriage we grab the hand of the other and run out into the world together to fulfill our God-given mission. In this way, marriage is not only a picture of Christ and his church to the world, it is also a pursuit of Christ’s vision for the world. Your marriage will be most fulfilling and most secure when it is on mission.

The world needs more couples who understand that they are ministers to their communities. When they see a problem they ask, “How can I be a part of the solution?”

We are meant to function as a team.

We want to go wherever God wants us to go to do whatever God wants us to do. We want to be right in the center of what God is doing until the day he calls us home.
