Some years ago I did a full treatment of life after death in a book called Eternal Life: A New Vision—Beyond Religion, Beyond Theism, Beyond Heaven and Hell.* I weighed the odds of eternal life, newly defined. My conclusion was that I do believe in it. I find that it makes sense.
