California coast sailing out of San Francisco.1869 first command. 27yo Joshua married an American woman, Virginia Abertina Walker, in Sydney, AU, 1871. Virginia accompanied him thereafter on his voyages. They had 3 sons + 1 daughter together, all born aboard ships or in foreign ports. Virginia died, 1884, 35yo.
