Some Kind of Wonderful

‘The guilt is the worst bit. Even now, I feel guilty for the fact that Michelle is about to endure childbirth, even though I had two wonderful labours with you girls. It’s as though it’s my fault that she’s over there having to go through it.’ ‘You didn’t force her into having a child, Mum.’

‘You don’t think so rationally when you’re a mum. I don’t anyway,’ she says with a sniff.

It’s true; sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. But you also don’t know what you’re made of until all you thought you knew and wanted is stripped away from you.
