Main Street USA’s imitation of old-time small-town America was followed in 1966 by the three-acre simulation of a sexier, more cosmopolitan nineteenth-century urban downtown, New Orleans Square. They become the de facto models for large-scale builders and designers of shopping malls and much of the rest of real-life America.
