We all look at white crime and black crime differently. The reasons are complex, some of them biased, to be sure, others more basic in-group and out-group perceptions. Whites will ignore the daily death toll in black inner cities, but when a gunman kills nine Christians in a church, who all happen to be black, they’re as outraged as anyone else. That’s because suddenly the victims become relatable.
