When a woman owns her body, she gets vilified.
Just know that if people are saying cruel things to you and about you, you can weather it, you will survive. If you can get to a place where you are okay marching to your own beat, you will thrive and be free. I promise you, it gets better.
Funny how when we come into our own power as women, that’s exactly when we are considered unattractive. It is they who are unattractive.
Sometimes to amuse myself I left the set at the end of the day with the fake blood still on my face or a giant wound, and I’d stop at the grocery store on my way home. I would do it to test the public, to see how they reacted to a wounded woman. Nobody asked to help me. Not once. They would just avoid eye contact and look down at the floor. It gave me great insight into the invisibility of an abused woman. Note to society: you should always ask if a woman needs help if they look abused. Do the right thing. Be bold and be brave.
Why is there no outcry over men telling women’s stories? There should be; it’s not like they do it well. They do it so it’s just good enough. I’m bored of good enough and I know the public is too.
People need to respect boundaries. Just because you see someone you feel you know, does NOT mean you get to harass them or touch them. The person you think you know owes you the same as any human does, which is nothing more than politeness. So be polite, be respectful, do not surround, do not grab, do not clutch, do not push. Be civilized and you will usually get that in return.
Knowing what you don’t want is more important than what you do want, because the reality is, we rarely dream as big for ourselves as the universe can; by knowing what your nos are, you get to the yes, and the yes is bigger than you maybe even imagined.
It’s time men realized their semen isn’t all that.
You virtually never see a woman saying no to a marriage proposal. All you see are girls freaking out, so overjoyed that someone finally wants to marry her. A man chose her. Oh yay.
It’s more than okay for women and girls to have emotion that is their own and not connected to what a man does or society says.
Why is 96 percent of our information, entertainment, and philosophy coming from men?
42 percent of US college graduates never read another book in their life after they graduate—entertainment
Twentieth Century Fox studios has no female director on the slate for the next three years. That means it’s almost all white male content this multicolored world is getting. No wonder it sucks.
Do whatever you want as much as you can. Do whatever you want to do, because this is your life. Live a life of adventure, tiny and big. Do weird shit. There is no reason you have to live your life to the rhythm of others. If you feel like staying up at night and sleeping during the day, figure out a way to support that and do it. This is your time, this is all you get, as far as we know, so why spend it making others happy if it’s not making you happy?
