I spend time with a wide variety of large organizations. Based on what I’ve seen working with these places, and based on my understanding of industry trends in general, I think I know what will give. Those companies will move away from employing software developers as wage laborers. The economics simply don’t make sense. Don’t get me wrong. These companies will absolutely continue to want and to need software and automation. They just won’t continue to staff it with salaried exempt employees in the same kind of numbers.
