The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) runs bunkhouses called “huts” in the White Mountains. They are large cabins that can sleep forty to ninety paying guests and have no road access. All guests have to hike in to the huts. The huts generate their own power from wind, solar, or hydroelectric generators. Each has a staff of about six that is responsible for cooking, cleaning, entertaining guests, and packing in supplies.
