Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw

After the end of the war, Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi decided to promote Sam to the rank of Field Marshal. She also wanted to appoint him as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS). However, the bureaucracy and the commanders of the Navy and the Air Force were not in favour of this and raised several objections.
