When we docked with the Harbinger, I allowed the crew to take ‘shore leave’ in the recreation deck of the superdreadnaught. It wasn’t the same as going to a station, but it was a break from the ship, which was what mattered.
Strangely, this situation happened with my ship and the aircraft carrier in our group while in the Mediterranean sailing off the coast of Egypt for 70+ days. We had been heading to make port in an Egyptian Port, I don't recall the name of the city; but we never put into port because Anwar Sedat was assassinated the day we were to dock. So we were ordered to sail in a big oval off the North coast for way too long. We (meaning the crew of the Fast Frigate I was serving on) jokingly asked the crew of the Aircraft Carrier if we could have "shore leave" aboard their ship. We were a bit surprised when they actually kicked the request up their chain of command and the Captain of the Carrier allowed 8 men at a time to take up to 8 hours leave aboard their ship. It only lasted for two groups because the guys from our ship abused access to their ship's store buying all the shaving creme, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant as they could when they got aboard the Carrier. Our own ship's store was running low on stock by the end of our third week of ovals off Egypt's coast.
