I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war.
my “blisters have not yet become calluses.”
“Rather a drink be my master than a man. These chains taste sweet.”
All ears yearn for a voice to lead them through darkness.”
You say it’s better to die on your feet. I say it’s better to live on our knees.”
“Break the chains, my love.”
On Mars there is not much gravity, so you have to pull the feet to break the neck. They let the loved ones do it.
An empire cannot be destroyed from without till it is destroyed from within.
I do not want to make you a man. Men are so very frail. Men break. Men die. No, I’ve always wished to make a god.”
“And now I Carve the things I saw in my fever dreams, just as they always wished. I dreamed of you, I think. In the end, I suppose they’ll wish I hadn’t dreamed at all.”
Soon we will have made man into god. Red into Gold.
“Ares once told me that it is the hottest fire that forms the sternest steel. Keep pushing the boy.”
Reds at the bottom, everyone else standing on our backs. Now you’re looking at me and you’re realizing that we don’t bloodydamn like it down there. Red is rising, Mickey.”
His name is Sevro, and I like his angle.
Sevro snorts. “What do you think I’ve been doing this whole time, you silky turd? Wanking off in the bushes?” Cassius and I look at each other. “Kind of,” I say. “Yeah, actually,” Cassius agrees.
“I killed their pack leader,” Sevro says when I ask why the wolves follow him. He looks me up and down and flashes me an impish grin from beneath the wolf pelt. “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t fit in your skin.”
Man cannot be freed by the same injustice that enslaved it.
“The measure of a man is what he does when he has power,”
“You do not follow me because I am the strongest. Pax is. You do not follow me because I am the brightest. Mustang is. You follow me because you do not know where you are going. I do.”
“Your mother rode me ragged,” Sevro grunts. “Bah, you’d have to stand on your tiptoes to even kiss her chin.” “Wasn’t her chin I was trying to kiss.”
“Promises are just chains,” she rasps. “Both meant for breaking.”
We cannot hear, but a pack of wolves does not need words to know that it is time to hunt.
Love and war are two different battlefields.
I am the spark that will set the worlds afire. I am the hammer that cracks the chains.
Words are a weapon stronger than he knows. And songs are even greater. The words wake the mind. The melody wakes the heart.
