Until once, when the other father said, “Your wife works?” Obviously, he was trying to explain to himself Eve’s absence. “No,” Denny replied. “She’s recovering from brain cancer.” The man dipped his head sadly upon hearing the situation. After that day, whenever we went to the bus stop, the man made himself busy talking to other people or checking his cell phone. We never spoke to him again.
