When pastors are confident that their church can function or even flourish without them for a season, they are more likely to find the courage to seek help for themselves or their marriages. As long as the entire system is built on the premise of singularity rather than redundancy, pastors will be incentivized to deny their needs and minimize their problems. The pastor cannot risk sharing a weakness or admitting a failure if there is no copilot to take the controls.
