Thirumoolar has reiterated the importance of chanting the five letters (Namasivaya) or the single letter (Om) in several places throughout Thirumanthiram. It appears from this poem that the five-letter chanting with controlled breathing has some key effects on extending or maintaining the functions of the lungs, and of course has the added benefits on the health of the mind.
