Bleichroeder’s role in the peace negotiations between Germany and France in 1871 was already more significant than his help in war,fn13 and he rendered even more important services in the late seventies when, through his connections with the Rothschilds, he provided Bismarck with an indirect news channel to Benjamin Disraeli.
