In my own experience, it began to be uncomfortable for me only when I realized other people found it embarrassing, when it felt like this help was becoming burdensome to those providing it, and when I (wrongly) assumed it meant I could never be independent, move away from home, or have a partner. As in my case, it is the stigma around being a burden and needing help that is so often the issue, rather than the help itself.
