Vision, or lack of it, is what had flummoxed DARPA’s 1980s-era smart truck in Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park. Twenty years later, DARPA was still trying to solve the fundamental problem of providing robots with the ability to process what they see and navigate around obstacles.
