Goldblatt was inspired by science fiction like Firefox, the 1982 movie starring Clint Eastwood, which featured weapons controlled by the human mind. Under Goldblatt, DARPA funded a group of researchers at Duke University to implant microelectrodes in monkeys’ brains.
