On the evening of 9th July 1944, Nathuram and Narayan were in their printing press when they received an evening newsfeed which stated, “Senior Congress leader, C. Rajgopalchari, recommending the acceptance of partition of India in principle, has mooted his proposal on Pakistan in the Congress session held at Allahabad this evening. Addressing a small gathering, he stated ‘…it has become necessary to choose the lesser evil and acknowledge the Muslim League’s claim for separation.’ C.
