I believe a new kind of union-management relationship is available for organizations that are willing to break the mold and try some experiments. I think of it as a “pro-productivity” union: a trade of more flexibility for more investments in workers, the tying of wages and benefits to productivity improvements in the company, and a proactive agenda to create entrepreneurial opportunities for all union members.
