You have a conscience; you have an interior sense of what is right and what is wrong, and I encourage you to use it.
The most self-assured, self-confident teens are those who have the best relationships with their parents, especially when there is an active, engaged, strong father in the home.
1) Teach them where their real value comes from.
2) Talk to them about being courageous.
3) Tell your own story.
When speaking to your sons, the most vital thing is to teach them the quiet heroism of self-control.
a man proves his mettle by his powers of self-control and by his living of a virtuous life;
4) Live it.
Fathers, if you read this book and remember only one thing, let it be this: stand up for your kids. Have the courage to do the right thing no matter what the cost.
whatever your wish, it would be less than what God is, and yet what name does God prefer above all others? Father. Let that sink in for a while. The Creator of all, the source of all power and wisdom, has one great desire: to be called Father. You share that name with God. He expects you to be worthy of it.
Commanding a healthy fear from a child is foreign to most modern fathers, but a healthy fear is a good thing, because it is nothing more than a sign of awe and respect, of not wanting to do wrong before a judge who really matters.
They see your weaknesses, your temptations, your stumbles, but they also notice when you steer clear from temptation, when you refrain from getting angry, when you avoid that drink that makes you tipsy or unpredictable (which frightens or embarrasses them), when you refuse to watch a movie or show that might be morally objectionable.
