It empowers you to understand other people. It makes partnership with others stronger. It allows you to maximize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. It opens the door to greater capacity.

It takes a desire to make self-awareness discoveries. It takes discipline to look at yourself and reflect on your experiences. It takes maturity to ask others to help you with your blind spots. Becoming self-aware also requires help from other people who can see you more clearly than you can see yourself.

I’m not trying to convince you to act confident without knowing what to do. You can’t be hyped to success. But you can be helped to success. You can be taught how to grow. You can be shown how to win inside victories that lead to outside victories. The idea of “if you believe it you can achieve it” doesn’t last. Contrast that with “if you achieve it you can believe it.” That does last, and it brings genuine confidence.

For years I have been intentional about having energy pluses close to me so that I can quickly access them when I need an energy shot. For example, when I’m getting ready to speak and I want a shot of mental energy, I look at my iPhone and read a couple of inspirational quotes. When I need energy to keep writing, I look at the bookshelf in my office that holds the books that have changed my life.
