To use an analogy from the world of computers, the traditional forms of Buddhism are like software programs that run on the same operating system. Despite their apparent differences, Theravāda, Zen, Shin, Nichiren, and Tibetan Buddhism share the same underlying soteriology, that of ancient India outlined above.
