Jesus says satan, the evil one, is like the unclean fowls that swoop down to snatch away the seeds of the gospel to keep people from believing (see Matt. 13:4,19). The fowls in Genesis represent satan swooping down to break up this covenant before it is completed by snatching away the acceptable sacrifice before it can be offered. So we see Abram trying to help God out by shooing them away.
