Healthy hearts have relatively high fractal dimensions, reflecting more spiky and ragged EKGs, whereas diseased hearts have low values with relatively smooth EKGs. In fact, those that are most seriously at risk have fractal dimensions close to one with an uncharacteristically smooth EKG.
