It’s easy to love someone who is very loving. It’s a whole other lesson to love someone who is cruel and hurtful.
And do you see that separating the world into those who are good and honest (our camp) and those who aren’t (their camp) does nothing but invite a feeling of superiority because we’re in the good camp and they’re not? This, in fact, is often the essence behind religious fundamentalism, which professes forgiveness but really does nothing but judge and condemn.
We either react without thinking or we hold it in until one day it all blows up when it becomes too much to bear inside. To be truly free, we must feel our emotions with full acceptance.
