The last line of the psalm asserts that the true joy and purpose of life are to love God and be loved by God, no longer alone, but in communion.
There was cause for despair, a sense that there was no way out of exile, for Israel had tried every way it could think of, and all those ways had failed.
There is a way into the future in your life, because God is at work doing strange, wondrous things for you and in spite of you, and your job is to get your mind off your ways of need and control, to give your life over to God’s large, hidden way in your life.
Being unafraid is an odd vocation; but it is the vocation of all those who have been baptized.
