How could he have fallen in love with Daniel Nieto? How could he let that happen? He picked up something, a soap dish, and threw it across the bathroom.
It’s so interesting watching men who’ve been emotionally stunted by bad parenting/the patriarchy experience love … and by “interesting” I mean more than a little terrifying 💀
“I’d hoped you’d be reasonable.” He got to his feet, the near empty bottle of liquor in his grip. As Felipe gazed up at him with narrowed eyes, Stavros smashed the bottle against the table. He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Stavros struck. Stabbing him in the throat with the jagged glass. Blood spurted.
“You want to get up?” Mouth curved, Stavros said, “I’m sure your nephew will be here in a second to make sure I didn’t shoot you.” “No.” Of course, Toro chose that moment to come racing in. “Tío!” He skidded to a halt at the bottom of the stairs. “Fuck. Really?”
No, cause thinking your uncle was murdered by one of his biggest enemies only to run in and find him on his knees in front of said enemy having obviously finished… ya know… must be…. Jarring, to say the least 😭
“You think he wants to hurt me?” Toro shrugged. “I used to think he’d done the worst anyone could possibly do to you,” he said in a low tone. “But I see the way you look at him.” “And?” “He can do much worse.”
“I’ve never been tethered,” he said in a hoarse voice. “I’m forty-two years old, and I’ve never had someone feel for me what I feel for them. I’ve never been someone’s anchor, never had someone be that for me.” He spun then, found Daniel a touch away and nearly reached for him. Nearly. “I have never been given a chance, because no one chose me.”
“No pares.”
“Cógeme, diablo.”
“When I return you will finish what you started in that backseat.” Stavros licked his lips. “Then you’ll take us to that beach house of yours, and do it all over again.” God. Damn. “I love you,” he said. Because that was really the only response a moment like that required. “Lo sé.” Daniel nodded once. “I love you, too.” He continued the short trek to his brother’s front door. And Stavros waited for him.
fuck anyone who doesn’t get us.”
the sound of glass shattering downstairs made both of them freeze. Stavros was the one to launch himself upright and off the bed first, pulling on his shorts with one hand as he grabbed the guns atop the dresser. Daniel followed him, hurriedly stepping into his pants and catching the weapon Stavros tossed at him.
He used his hands and his own breath to bring Daniel back the first time. The one and only time he’d used his hands for that purpose.
“You feel like testing me? I’m not going to kill you, not now.” He dropped his hand and slid back into his seat. “You’re going to suffer first. Because I can get at you anytime. And I’ve got people everywhere. Anytime. You never know who you’ll bump into in the cafeteria. You never know who’ll be watching in that shower.” Rage flashed in Antonio’s eyes. “You’ll spend the rest of your time watching your back.
He said, “I might not be able to kill you but I will TERRORIZE you. I will make you wish I would just kill you”
“You don’t get to leave.” The words shook, pain and anger most potent as they tumbled past Stavros’ lips. He stalked Daniel in the narrow bed. “You don’t get to fucking make me love you then leave me behind.”
“I’m sorry about Antonio.” Daniel frowned. “Why? It is nothing to do with you.” “Maybe not, but he is still my father and he hurt you.” Toro looked away, staring down at a couple walking their dogs on the beach below. “You won’t get an apology from him. So I'm giving you mine.”
