In 1986, the New York Times published an article titled, “With AIDS about, Heterosexuals Are Rethinking Casual Sex.” Advances in contraception and women’s liberation made casual sex a possibility. The risk of contracting HIV cast everyone back into a time of sexual fear. The sexual revolution was not just a queer revolution, though perhaps queers kept its lessons alive.
