This scripture refers to a messenger of Satan sent to torment Paul to keep him from becoming arrogant due to his extraordinary revelations, NOT because he was an apostle. However, the book of Acts definitely shows that opposition from unbelievers frequently popped up wherever the apostles saw a tremendous response to their ministry and message.
