If someone told Kerry something he didn’t want to hear, he would find someone else who would rubber-stamp his opinion. Obama, with the help of advisers David Plouffe and David Axelrod, built a cohesive team that was neither beholden to, nor heavily influenced by, Democratic Party insiders. They would rise and fall together, unfearful of missing out on the advice of party stalwarts.
