We see this when Jesus submitted himself to the sacrament of baptism (John 1:29–34), not just to locate his identity in a broader community of faith but also to reveal original righteousness for all of us: “We must do this to completely fulfill God’s justice,” or “righteousness,” as it’s translated in many other versions (Matthew 3:15).
