“What’s the big deal? I’m totally straight, but this guy makes Clint Eastwood look like a troll.”

“You slapped him? Three times?” His voice rose with his incredulity. “I thought he was Taylor’s ex, okay?” “And it took three slaps to figure out it wasn’t him?”

“Why was six afraid of seven?” John stared at him blankly, still cautious. Calloway continued. “Because seven is a registered six offender.”

“Is that Scarlett Johansson?” She pointed over his shoulder toward the door. “Oh my god.” He snapped his neck toward the door and jumped up in his seat. “Where? I need to ask her to marry me. I’ve been meaning to get around to it.”

“I’m not. I just have a healthy respect for good-looking people. If he wasn’t seeing you, I’d ask him to pick up girls with me. Dude, we would dominate every bar in Manhattan. Women with their best friends would be lining up to take a ride on the pony express.”

“Look, I care about my sister. I’d do anything for her—no questions asked.” He finally turned serious. “But she can take care of herself. I need my privacy because I have a lot of shit going on—dirty shit. And I don’t want her in the way. She wouldn’t want to get in my way anyway.”
