We all, or at least most of us, have been socialized into modern Western culture and most of us into an American form of modern Western culture. I don’t need to trash modern Western culture or the American way of life, but the central values of Western life over the last hundred years are so radically different from anything that is recognizably Christian that to be Christian means to be resocialized into a different vision and a different way of being.
