I quickly discovered something very surprising, considering the circumstances: I was relieved. By making a conscious effort to structure my work and life, I suddenly had the ability to focus on all the roles I filled. Whatever maternal guilt I experienced by shuffling my son off to day care was replaced by the satisfaction I felt when I could be present with him whenever we were together. As my harried life became much smoother I found a newfound confidence in all the roles I had juggled before.
