The proclamation of the Word of God in preaching is a Christ-centered and cruciform reality. As Paul says about his own preaching, I “preach Christ crucified” (1 Cor. 1:23). This kind of preaching calls for listeners with ears to hear, who have become attuned to the wisdom from above (1 Cor. 1:21). As such, this kind of preaching is a “stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles. . . . For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Cor. 1:23, 25).
