How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child

It is one of the reasons why I think my parents were so passionate about educating their girls, so that we could learn that no one can take away our worth.

How dare the sun rise, as if it were any other day, after such a gruesome night.

But it is not my responsibility to protect a predator.

There’s a certain sense of camaraderie in the city, a feeling that we’re all in it together, no matter how different we might be.

“Be righteous and faithful when no one is watching.”

But I have learned that if we want to change the world, we can’t harden our hearts and shut ourselves off from other cultures. We must open up our hearts.
