The book in its entirety was published by Boni & Liveright, renowned for their modernist authors. In that same year, 1925, they published works by Dreiser, Hemingway, Faulkner, Eliot, and Pound. The first printing, a modest 1,200 copies, was followed within two weeks by a second of 20,000, succeeded by many more reprints.
