“I rather liked it.” Her mouth fell ajar. “Even though I yelled at you?” “In truth, that might have made all the difference.” “Really?” Irsa blinked, astounded. “Goodness, but you’re odd. Has anyone ever told you that?” His smile appeared again, just as mystifying as before. Then— The Caliph of Khorasan laughed.

Shahrzad smiled. “Are you a genie or a fool?” “A fool. As I’ve always been when it comes to you.”
His touch was silk over steel. It made her hot and cold all at once. His kisses were the perfect mix of hard and soft. Practiced and unrestrained. When she tried to tug him closer, Khalid was careful. Too careful. As always, Shahrzad wanted more.
For it was easy to be good and kind in times of plenty. The trying times were the moments that defined a man.
Her heart was as boundless as the ocean. As vast as the sky.
