There were also isolated remnants of earlier human groups. On the small island of Flores, Indonesia, one such group went through a process of dwarfing. It is unclear how archaic humans reached this island but it is likely that this happened at a time when sea levels were low and the island was easily accessible from the mainland. When sea levels rose, the group became trapped on an island with limited resources. In response to scarcity, the survivors reduced in size and evolved into a species named Homo floresiensis that reached a maximum height of one metre and a weight of 25 kgs.
