A red dwarf is a small, cool star. Such stars have masses less than half of the Sun’s. Red dwarf stars were once thought unable to support habitable planets. However, scientists now think that old theory is wrong. Red dwarfs do have planets, but they have curious orbits. Planets in the Goldilocks Zone of a red dwarf would be so close to the parent star that they would be tidally locked.
