Where he turned on a hob and presumably melted the ties by holding his wrists over the flame, behind his back. But he really made his way to the stove, or the cooker. The presence of an oven is irrelevant. And in any normal kitchen you turn around to the stove, or take a couple of steps-- hardly "making one's way."
