Many people think it was because Moses struck a rock in anger instead of just speaking to it that he was no longer eligible to enter the Promised Land. If you look at what Moses said right before he hit the rock, there is a bit more to it. Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?” (Numbers 20:10) The word “we” is not in caps.
