Grill’s research shows that although decerebrate rats take normal-sized meals, if they are underfed, they are unable to compensate normally by increasing the size of subsequent meals. In other words, their satiety system works great, but their lipostat is out of the picture, once again suggesting that the hypothalamus may be required for that function.
