Another possibility is that the weird stuff with negative pressure expands rapidly, and as it expands, it creates more of this weird stuff. And even though the weird stuff decays into normal matter, it’s possible that it doesn’t decay fast enough. If more new weird stuff is created faster than it can decay into normal matter, then the result is that the universe will continue to inflate forever.
