It’s okay to do something for yourself. It’s okay to be selfish sometimes. It’s okay to love yourself like you love others.
“God, this mouth. I think about it every day. Every night. These lips. I can’t stop thinking about how they will taste. How they will feel against my own,” he said quietly and reverently.
He growled low in his throat and set his determined eyes to mine. “Sunshine, I’m going to kiss you. I can’t stop. I know it will change everything. But I can’t not kiss you. Not for one more minute.” He ran his nose along mine.
“Tell me to stop. Tell me not to kiss you before I ruin everything. Tell me now.”
“Please. Pretend with me, Adrian.” It was wrong and manipulative. I knew that those words would wrap around his heart. I knew he’d give me whatever I wanted if I used them. “Let’s pretend we are just a boy and a girl in love. That our lives aren’t encompassed in overwhelming sorrow and heartbreak. That we aren’t swimming in a never-ending sea of grief. Please, let me have this. This moment of beautiful in all of this ugly,” I begged him.
“Oh. My. God. What in the hell is wrong with you? Put that….that…weapon of ass destruction away, man. Jesus, don’t you know that I can’t unsee that shit?”
That’s the thing with loving someone so deeply—it doesn’t go away simply because that person does something awful to you. It doesn’t just go away because you want it to. Love could be as cruel as it could be wonderful.
Momma grabbed my face between both hands and said, “Listen to me, baby. We know better than anyone that life is short and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. If you want something, you need to go after it. Don’t wait until it’s too late,” she finished.
“Do you like letting other men touch what’s always been mine, Sunshine?”
Blue eyes held mine captive while he growled out, “Yeah, Sunshine. Fuck…yes… Take it all. Suck it harder… Yes…just…like…that.”
“It’s always been you, Ainsley. For me, it’s always been you. I want to be there for you through everything. Even life’s hardest moments.” He looked around the room. “Because of the big picture. Our picture. And I don’t want to miss another minute of it. So let me be there for you. Let me take care of you. Let me love you.”
