This line was inspired by an episode of Game of Thrones - by a scene between Jaime & Cersei. There aren’t really any similarities story-wise or character-wise, but there’s something about Nicholas’a desperation here - his sorrow and conflicted emotions at this moment - that made me think of it while I was watching the GoT scene, and this line showed up in my head.
