“Freddie—do you like pie?”

The character of Freddie was not part of the original outline for Royally Screwed. I thought of him and this scene, mid-way through writing the first draft as a way to solve the plot point dilemma of how Nicholas would get back into Olivia’s good graces. I was so excited when I thought of it! Nicholas’s actions are completely in-character, while at the same time solving the “extra pie” problem for Olivia in a way that she won’t interpret as “charity” towards her. The entire scene relates back to the “impressed” conversation Nicholas & Olivia have when he first reappears in the coffee shop.
